More than 200 family business entries were submitted, marking a significant increase since the founding event in 2019

The resilience and adaptability of family-run businesses across Ireland during the recent pandemic is to be recognised with this year’s Energia Family Business Awards.

The announcement of award winners, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place virtually from 18th October 2021, and celebrate ‘resilience through generations’ showcased by Irish family businesses.

This year’s Energia Family Business Awards feature 18 categories, each of which recognise the outstanding achievements of generations of Irish family companies across all sectors and industries. More than 200 entries were received across the hospitality, retail, agrifood, construction, transport, tech and professional services sectors from family businesses across the entire island of Ireland, marking a significant increase in the number of entries year on year.

For the full list of categories and finalists as well as awards sponsors  and other information can be found at Familybusinessawards.ie. From 18th – 22nd October, journalist and broadcaster Matt Cooper will make five daily category winner announcements on the Family Business Awards social media channels, honouring businesses who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and resilience throughout the Covid-19 pandemic while continuing to thrive and grow.

The theme of ‘Resilience through generations’ aims to recognise the most adaptable family businesses across the country and those who are helping keep the wider SME sector alive.

Speaking about the Family Business Awards, Alan Mulcahy, Head of Sales at Energia, said:

“Irish family businesses have experienced unprecedented challenges over the past year. The lifeblood of communities across Ireland, their resilience has been an instrumental part of the broader national effort to combat the impacts of the pandemic. Therefore, as we continue what is a hopeful reopening of our society and economy, the timing of these awards is fitting. As a founding supporter of the Family Business Awards, we are delighted to once again be able to celebrate the best of indigenous Irish businesses and wish all the finalists every success.”
